ACA L5 Swiftwater Rescue
Once you’ve taken a rescue course, what’s next?
Picture this, you’re the only one in your crew with training and something bad goes down. As someone with experience you are thrust into a role to coordinate your crew when minutes or even seconds matter.
This course picks up where other courses finish and goes from there. We will work rescue simulations early and often to develop rapid decision making, and we will train for unusual circumstances and difficult terrain. You will learn how to respond earlier with greater success to common mishaps, and develop tools for responding when it gets weird.
This course will be instructed by one of the most passionate leaders in Swiftwater Rescue, Jordan Taylor. In addition to decades running challenging and highly remote whitewater, he has been rescued from a heads down Class 5 undercut. Jordan currently serves the ACA as an Instructor Trainer and is a voting member of the Safety & Rescue Committee. Jordan is also one of 13 members of the Astral Pro Team. While some of his students call his courses “River Crossfit” he prefers the term “River Parkour”.
Skills covered may include: Advanced Rope Systems, Mechanical Advantage, Entrapped Swimmer Rescue, Strainer Scenarios, Advanced Boat Unpinning, Multi-Point Anchors, and Rescue Leadership.
